CHANDIGARH: A college girl and the mother of two teenaged sons by their kin in two separate cases of honour killings in Haryana on Thursday.
In Nurankhera village of Sonipat district Sarita Devi (18) was killed by her father after he caught her with her lover Dinesh Kumar (23). Dinesh was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.
Sarita and Kumar were undergraduate students at a Gohana college and belonged to different castes. According to police, Sarita’s father Krishan Kumar had warned Dinesh’s family about the affair three months back but the youth did not pay any heed.
“Krishan attacked Sarita and Dinesh with a sharp-edged weapon when he saw the couple together,” said a police officer. According to the FIR, the girl’s grandfather Ram Narayan also set upon the couple with a stick. Both of them were arrested.
In Kansala village of Rohtak district, a villager killed his sister Murti Devi (32) for having illicit relations with a relative.
Murti was married to a youth in a neighbouring village around 15 year back and had two teenaged sons. But she fell in love with a cousin of her husband and started living at Kharkhoda town of Sonipat district around five year back after leaving her husband and sons.
Two months back she came to her maternal village to stay for sometime. A police officer said, “Enraged by her lover’s visits, her brother Gajraj shot her on Thursday morning.” A case of murder has been registered. According to the police, the accused used a desh katta (illegal pistol) to commit the crime.
