A young woman and a middle-aged man committed suicide in the past 72 hours.
In Pirabad, 22-year-old Sofia Mahmood killed herself after quarrelling with her family.
The woman got dejected after an exchange of hot words with her mother and locked herself in a room at her residence in Pakhtunabad, Orangi Town. She then swallowed some poisonous substance to commit suicide.
After a few hours, when Sofia’s mother called her for some work and knocked the door of her room, the girl did not respond. The mother called her husband, who broke into the room and found Sofia lying on the floor in an unconscious condition.
She was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she breathed her last during treatment.
Police said the parents were forcing the victim to marry someone against her will and she killed herself.
