Muzaffarnagar: In a suspected case of honour killing, a probe has been ordered against eight members of a family of a girl who was allegedly killed after she refused to remarry, police said Friday.
The incident occurred in October when one Sangita was found hanging at her parents’ house, they said, adding that the complaint was filed by Sangita’s brother-in-law.
Sangita got married on August 11, 2008 to Satbir. She returned to her parents house a few months back after her husband was arrested in connection with a case, police said, adding that her family members forced her to marry someone else but she refused.
Eight people including the Sangita’s father Puran Singh were booked yesterday in connection with her death, they said.
However, the family members of the girl call it a case of suicide.
