Father and son beaten, crushed under tractor

Now there’s been an honour killing in Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s own backyard.
A hair-raising incident of daylight murder has been reported in Etawah, the CM’s home town, where some members of the Thakur community allegedly killed a Dalit father-son duo over a love affair.

Though the incident occurred on Saturday, it came to light only on Monday when Krishna Pratap, Bareilly’s joint sales tax commissioner and a kin of the deceased, raised the issue seeking police action against the culprits.

Arun Kumar Jatav (30), a Dalit youth from Uddhannpurva village under Etawah’s Ekdil police station area, had an affair with Baby (18), a Thakur girl of the same village.
They had eloped in May. The girl’s family members somehow located her in Moradabad, brought her back and forced her to marry a man of their choice.

Fearing the Thakurs, Jatav didn’t return to the village. But this wasn’t enough for the girl’s family. Unable to find Arun, Baby’s father Ganesh Tomar and six of his aides attacked his father Tulsiram with sharp-edged weapons on Saturday.
They also attacked Arun’s elder brother Sudhir when he tried to save his father.

When the injured duo was going to hospital for treatment after the attack, Ganesh allegedly crushed them under the wheels of his tractor. Krishna Pratap spoke to the media about the incident and described it as honour killing. ‘Tulsiram was my elder brother. Tomar and his aides attacked him and his son as they were angry over their daughter’s affair with a Dalit. Later, Ganesh crushed them with his tractor.

While Tulsiram died on the spot, Sudhir succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. Despite a case being registered against the accused, no action has been initiated against them.
We fear they will now kill Arun too,’ he said. Reacting on the incident, Akhilesh said, ‘No such crime would be tolerated anywhere in the state. The culprits should be arrested soon.’ ‘We have arrested two persons but the main accused is still at large. We have constituted several teams to nab them,’ a senior police officer said.
