Four of family get life term in honour killing case

CHANDIGARH: A Rohtak court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to four members of a family in an honour killing case in Rohtak in 2010.

A young girl, Rajni, was killed by her family members in Janta Colony of Rohtak on September 2, 2010, as they suspected her character. When the family was planning to take the body to their native Mokhra village of Rohtak district, somebody informed police about the incident. Police soon reached the spot and took the body into possession.

The family members told police that Rajni died due to a pain in the stomach. The postmortem report however revealed that the girl was killed by strangulation.

Police had lodged a murder case against her brother Deepak, cousin brother Surender, uncle Dayanand and grandmother Jeewani.

Additional sessions judge Naresh Kumar on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to them, besides imposing fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the convicts.
