A CITY campaigner who has battled for years against forced marriages said she felt “a great sense of pride and achievement” on receiving her CBE medal.
Jasvinder Sanghera was handed the medal by Prince Charles at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace yesterday, joined by her children, Jordan and Natasha.
She said: “It was absolutely fantastic to be received by Prince Charles.
“He said he was really pleased to see me and he said it was a well-deserved achievement.
“I said to him that it was fantastic that forced marriage was to become a criminal offence next year.”
Jasvinder – who ran away from home to escape a forced marriage aged 15 – was honoured with the medal for services to victims of forced marriage and honour-based violence.
She co-founded charity Karma Nirvana, which supports victims of such marriages.
