Muzaffarnagar: A 21-year-old girl survived an honour killing attempt allegedly by her family members here, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl’s family members allegedly pushed her into the Ganga canal at Ratenpuri village in the district, they said.
The girl was rescued from the canal by some villagers, after they heard her cries, police said.
Sangita had eloped with her boyfriend Jogender (23) and got married to him a month back. Later, she returned home on the promise of a social marriage by her family members, following which she was beaten up and pushed into Ganga canal situated near Satheri village, they said.
The girl’s family had opposed her relationship and marriage, as the boy belonged to a different caste, they said.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the girl’s cousin brothers Satish, Kashmira and Vinod, police said, adding that a man hunt has been launched to nab them.
Meanwhile, the accused in the Budhana village honour killing case, which took place two days back have been arrested, police said today.
