Youth kills two sisters for ‘honour’

BAREILLY: In a suspected case of honour killing, a youth killed his two sisters on Saturday morning in Gher Saifuddin locality of Rampur.

Police said that the elder sister, Rounak (19), was having an affair with a local youth. However, the girl’s brother, Raja Mashkoor (30), had fixed her marriage with another man without her consent. They regularly used to quarrel over the issue, said the police.

On Saturday, when the girl’s father had left for work, Rounak and Raja started fighting over the issue. Raja locked his wife in a room and took out his tamancha (country-made gun). When he pointed his gun towards Rounak, the younger sister, Gudiya (18) came in rescue of her sister. However, the bullet fired by Raja hit Gudiya, who died on the spot.

After killing Gudiya, Raja shot Rounak, said police.

The girls’ father, Amir Saha (75), who runs a grocery shop, lodged an FIR against his son at Gunj police station. The accused is absconding. “The accused shot Rounak because she wanted to marry her paramour and killed Gudiya as she came between him and Rounak. We can confirm the incident as honour killing only after arresting Raja,” said SP, Rampur, Sadhana Goswami.
