Detailed report of Lahore honor killing presented in LHC

LAHORE- The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Shafeeq Ahmed Gujjar today submitted a detailed report on the Farzana Parveen murder case before Lahore High Court (LHC).

Gujjar appeared in court today in relation to LHC Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial’s verdict, in a case pertaining to the state of security in courts. Previously, Justice Bandial had ordered the CCPO to appear before it in person and with a report on Farzana’s murder.

He informed Justice Bandial that four out of six nominated accused and nine out of 20 unidentified suspects, had so far been arrested. “Police will present a charge sheet of the incident within a week’s time,” the CCPO assured the court

During the hearing, Advocate General Punjab Mustafa Ramday said police personnel deployed for security in the courts had to be present at their designated positions. “It is the duty of the police to provide citizens with security,” he added.

Furthermore, Justice Bandial, in his comments stated “Applicants visiting courts should be provided with security. It seems that the police have become a silent spectator. People approach the courts in search of justice and are instead murdered. Courts have become the most suitable place for exacting revenge in Pakistan. Such shameful brutal incidents make a mockery of our courts on global floor and we will not tolerate it,” he added.

The two-member bench comprising Justice Bandial and Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik moreover ordered the immediate arrest of the remaining two accused in the Farzana murder case and subsequently adjourned the hearing of the case to July 10, 2014.
