A teenaged woman, who married against the wishes of her parents, was hacked to death by her father at Ganugugonda of Tungaturthy mandal on Saturday morning, in what is being described as a case of honour killing by the police.
The woman, B. Swapna (19), was lured by her father Lingamally, who told her that he had forgiven her for marrying outside the caste and that she should come home to tie rakhi to her brother. Believing her father’s words, Swapna went over to her parents’ place only to be hacked to death, police inspector K. Parthsarathi said.
Police said Swapna and Praveen Kumar, an auto driver by profession, fell in love with each other and eloped on July 15 to get married in the Bhadrachalam temple. After their marriage, the couple spent a fortnight in Hyderabad and returned to their village on August 1. Since then, the woman had been staying in her in-laws’ house in the same village. The woman was studying Intermediate and the inter-caste marriage was vehemently opposed by her parents.
On Saturday morning, the woman’s parents went to Praveen’s house and invited their daughter.
