Honour killing: Man slits daughter’s throat for eloping

GHAZIABAD: In yet another case of honour killing, a man killed his daughter in Nasbandi colony in Loni.

Justifying his acts, the locals staged a protest against cops and agitators and the situation came under control only after local leaders intervened.

Police arrested the accused, identified as Gayasuddin, and recovered the sharp-edged murder weapon from him.

According to police, Gayasuddin killed his 15-year-old daughter when other family members were not at home. Gayasuddin is from Muzaffarnagar and is a driver by profession.

“The 15-year-old had eloped with a boy a few days ago. But the cops had traced and rescued her. But her father was upset and was not happy to see her back,” a senior police officer said. The accused had been living in the colony with his family for a long time and was upset about their neighbours taunting his daughter.

“On Friday, in the absence of his wife and son, Gayasuddin got into a heated argument with his daughter. He later got hold of a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat,” the officer added.

Neighbours rushed the girl to a local hospital, which referred her to GTB hospital in Delhi. The girl succumbed to her injuries during the treatment.

When the cops reached the spot to arrest the accused, residents staged a protest. They were later pacified by the police and local leaders.
