Honour killing: Parents murder girl for marrying her boyfriend, arrested

Hyderabad: In an alleged case of honour killing in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur, a 26-year-old techie was allegedly killed by her parents on Sunday. The woman had married her boyfriend, who belongs to a different community, in Hyderabad last week.

Police arrested the accused who later confessed to committing the crime during interrogation.

Urban Guntur SP, Gopinath Jatti,told CNN-IBN, “The parents of girl went to Hyderabad and they brought her here by saying that we will perform our family rituals in our native place. After that your marriage will be valid and they took the girl to their house and they asked the boy to stay some somewhere in a hotel or somewhere.”

“Immediately after reaching house, they strangulated her and then they absconded. One of the friends of the boy went to house of the girl and they saw that the girl was lying on the bed. Immediately after seeing that incident they informed the local police. After opening the lock they saw that the girl was lying on the bed and she was already dying(sic),” he added.

Kiran Kumar, the victim’s husband said, “Her parents promised us that they would get us married properly at a temple according to their tradition.”

The parents have confessed to the crime, said Jatti.

A case of murder has been registered against the girl’s parents who are now in police custody.
