Supreme Court seeks fresh affidavit in suspected honour killing

GURGAON: The Supreme Court has directed the Gurgaon police commissioner to file an additional affidavit on the delay in registration of FIR lodged by a man, resulting in the murder of his wife in a suspected honour killing case. Police on November 9, 2013 had arrested the father and maternal uncle for killing the woman and dumping her body in a river near Gautam Budh Nagar in UP. The woman had married out of her caste against her family’s wishes.

The woman’s husband, Arun Kumar, had approached the apex court alleging that the police did not register and investigate the case.

In the affidavit submitted by the Gurgaon police it was stated that the FIR was registered on November 7 at Farrukh Nagar police station and that the probe had been handed over to the crime branch, Gurgaon. The police had arrested Teekam Singh and Jaibeer, the woman’s father and maternal uncle on November 9.

The police also stated that the woman’s father and uncle took her to a relative’s house on the pretext of a religious ceremony but killed her before dumping her body in a river in Gautam Budh Nagar.
